A Milestone Reached

Updated: Mar 6

Just a quickie...

As I've said in my other posts, the biggest impact of playing one handed vs two handed is distance. This makes a big difference. Par 3s take 2 shots to get to the green, Par 4s take the 3 shots etc. Birdies, which do wonders for your score, are practically impossible.

Other than doing a Bryson and bulking up my right arm, I wasn't sure how I could get the distance up.

Mr Muscle...

Thankfully, within the membership of CGC, we have Nico Williams. Nico is a performance coach, movement specialist and a qualified Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) coach. He has set up an amazing cabin at the back of his garden with a top spec gym and golf simulator.

We went through my swing step by step building something that would make better use of my muscles and joints to be able to swing the club faster.

It was difficult to get the hang of it at first but I persevered. Towards the end of the session, Nico persuaded me to try a driver, which I hadn't been brave enough to do before now.

On my last shot of the session, everything came together and I 'crushed' it over 200 yards. I really wouldn't have thought that was possible with just one hand and shows the benefit of working with someone like Nico.

Nico then gave me some exercises to work on to build up my wrist strength to support the additional pressure being put through it and to prevent injury.

Just to be clear, a session with Nico doesn't replace a lesson with a golf pro, but rather it should ideally complement what you do with a pro to allow you to get the most from your body. You can find Nico's business card below and - just for the record - this is NOT a paid promotion.

Do you have any similar examples where you achieved something you didn't think your body would be capable of?
